The second National Convention held at New Delhi ( Geeta Bal Bharati Vidyalaya, Shahadara) and it was attended over 2000 delegates from 22 states representing over 500 Co-op. Institutes across the country. The convention inaugurated by Shri. Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and at the convention place, Exhibition inaugurated by Shri. Madanji Dilawar, Co-operation Minister of Rajasthan.
Shri. Suresh Prabhu, former union minister and currently member of parliament, has deliver the key note address on water resources management in rural and urban areas and the role co-operatives can play in water resources management, environment protection and energy generation. Shri. Ajit Sardesai, former executive director of Reserve Bank of India, has also address the convention on revival of rural co-operative credit delivery system
Taking stock of the 2-day convention, Shri Suryakant Kelkar, Organising Secretary, Sahakar Bharati in his valedictory address said the convention was a grand reflection of the whole country with delegates from all over the country assimilating in large numbers. The first national convention was organised in Mumbai in 2003 & there were more than 10,000 delegates.
The convention provided the delegates with an opportunity to exchange views on the cooperative sector with their compatriots from other states, Shri Kelkar said.
The delegates, who were solemnised oath by the outgoing President Dr. Avinash Acharya on their commitment towards social engrossment, were able to understand the leadership and working of Sahakar Bharati from close quarters during the 2-day convention, he added.
He also took note of the inaugural address delivered by Shri. Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, which was instrumental in boosting the morale of the delegates.
The morale of the delegates could be seen from the proactive participation in discussing the subjects confronting the cooperative sector and subsequently in the passage of resolutions on cooperative credit and housing issues among others, Shri Kelkar said.
The Convention unanimously elected Shri. Jyotindrabhai Mehta (Rajkot) as National President and Shri. Vishnuji Bobde (Dombivali) as General Secretary for tenure of next three years.
As part of enhancing the spectrum of Sahakar Bharati, Shri Kelkar pointed out the events that the delegates could undertake after going back to the respective states and districts. These included celebrating December 12 as `Bank Day' in memory of the Late Annasaheb Godbole and January 11 as the foundation day of Sahakar Bharati by focussing on the vision statement of `Bina Sanskar, Nahi Sahakar', he added.
He also asked the delegates to celebrate March 25, to demand and create awareness for an autonomous act for the co-operative sector in the country. It may be recalled that March 25 was the day when the co-operative act was the first passed in the country in 1904.
Shri. Kelkar lamented on the crisis through which the co-operative institutions were passing in the country but echoed optimism that we must look at this critical phase as an opportunity in every difficulty rather than a difficulty in every opportunity.
