Bhopal: Sahakar Bharati has kicked-start its process to reach the talukas across the country in the next decade as part of its organizational expansion, said Vijay Dewangan, joint organization secretary, of Sahakar Bharati here on Sunday Nov 1.

He was delivering the keynote address on the first day of the two-day convention that began on Sunday.

Sahakar Bharati, set up in 1978, has spread its wings through cooperative-banks and credit societies in its first phase under the leadership of Annasaheb Godbole and Laxmanrao Inamdar. In the second phase, it was focused in building up the organizational structure across the country. “We now plan to spread the tentacles of organization right up to the taluka level,” Dewang said. This was the third national convention of Sahakar Bharati – a non governmental organization working in the field of cooperatives institutions. The first two conventions were held in Mumbai and New Delhi in 2003 and 2007 respectively.

As a prelude to the convention, on Saturday, a exhibition of products manufactured at cooperative institutions were on display.

ALTERNATIVE DEVELOPMENT MODEL

Delivering the valedictory address at the convention, Bajranglal Gupta, in-charge of Sahakar Bharati said, “The models of development under capitalism and socialism have failed, as the economic growth derived is more cruel in nature.”

Under capitalism, competition only resulted in exploitation of economy and society while communism was dependent on the struggle between `haves and haves not,’ Gupta said.

“Both systems paved way for chaos and disturbed the harmony of the society,” Gupta said. Gupta called on for a new socio economic model, which will be an alternative to the above two systems.

An alternative development model under the cooperative structure with an element of character in it should pave way for not only the human development in the country, but also be a guiding light to the world at large, Gupta said.

NEW OFFICE-BEARERS

At the convention, veteran banker Satish Marathe and Subhash Chandra Mandge were elected as president and general secretary respectively.

Mandge is the chairman of M.P. State Co-operative Dairy Federation Ltd.
Speaking on the occasion, Marathe said, “Cooperative institutions have a social obligation to fulfill. But by nature, they are economic organization.”

Marathe emphasised on the induction of technology in the work of cooperative institutions.
The theme of the national convention was also apt – “Technology for cooperative renaissance.”
The convention will conclude with public rally to be addressed by Shivraj Singh Chauhan, chief minister of Madhya Pradesh.
