Co-operative Movement in India was formally
launched in 1904 when the first Co-op. Societies
Act was enacted . The movement would thus
be completing a century its existence next
year i.e. 2004, though Co-operative forms
of organization in the shape of Nidhis,
Chit Funds etc. were in operation even before
1904. it would thus be appropriate to undertake
an analytical review of its achievement
& failures and the problems and challenges
which it has to face in the context of the
present economic situation and the policy
framework within which it has to function.
